probably catch your attention for their performance and design.
How to Choose a Good Gaming Laptop?
The main factor you should consider to buy a gaming laptop is making sure that it has a quad core processor. Even if dual core processors might have a good performance for some games, quad core processors allow the user a much better gaming experience. That includes more optimal graphic settings and high FPS.
Gaming Laptops Processor
The best processors for gamers available this year, are those from the 6th (Skylake) and 7th (Kaby Lake) generation of Intel chips. They have the latest technology available for gaming laptops, and the highest benchmark score.
In my opinion, the optimal gaming processor for laptops currently available is the i7-7700HQ, from the Kaby Lake generation. This processor has a pretty high benchmark, and is available in reasonably priced laptops.
The i7-7820HK has a higher benchmark than the i7-7700HQ, and can be a great investment if you want to buy some extremely powerful laptop. However, notebooks with this processor are usually pretty expensive.
Alternatively you may also want to consider laptops with the i7-6700HQ processor. This chip is from the Skylake generation, the predecessor to the Kaby Lake generation. The i7-6700HQ has a pretty good benchmark, and currently, many affordable gaming laptops are powered by this chip.
Dedicated Graphics Card
Apart from the quad core processor, your gaming laptop should have a great dedicated video card. Unless you are a casual gamer, you should not consider laptops with integrated GPUs.
The good news is that one can find laptops with pretty powerful dedicated video cards at relatively affordable rates. I especially recommend laptops using GPUs from the NVIDIA GeForce 900 and the GeForce 10 series. The GeForce 10 is newer than the 900 series, however, laptops using these GPUs are also more expensive.
For those considering laptops with GeForce 900 GPUs, The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M is a good point of reference. The GTX 960M is probably the most popular GPU from the GeForce 900 series, and behaves very well in most games released this year. The GeForce 950M (one below the 960M) is what I would consider the minimum threshold to get a good gaming laptop this year.
If you want to buy a laptop using a GeForce 10 series GPU, the options are numerous, and so are the prices. Even the least powerful among these GPUs (the 1050) is already pretty awesome. Obviously, superior models like the GeForce 1070 and 1080 have an even more impressive benchmark.
RAM is another hardware you should consider when choosing a gaming laptop. Even if its not an important as the CPU and GPU, it influences your gaming performance greatly.
The decision here is pretty easy and safe. Just choose a laptop using the DDR4 technology, and it should easy to manage your gaming experience. The minimum amount of RAM i would recommend is 8 GB, but the more the better.
The advantage of dealing with RAM is that in most cases you can expand it. However, make sure your model offers the possibility of RAM expansion, which is usually the case.
Storage main not seem a very important factor for gaming, but it has a considerable impact on your laptop’s performance. The choice here is more related to the type of storage, and not to its capacity.
I would recommend choosing laptops with solid state drives. Solid state drives have no moving parts, and there access data at a much faster speed rate than hard drive disks. That makes a significant difference when booting your PC and also when launching games.
Most high-end gaming laptops have either solid state storage (SSD) or hybrid storage. Those combining a solid state drive and a hard drive disk are usually handy, as you will have a lot of storage space on the HDD and the SSD for most frequently accessed software.
Screen and Resolution
If you are a gamer, I guess you will naturally expect to have the best image quality possible on your gaming experience. That might be contradictory with some laptops, as many of them in my opinion have pretty small screens.
For gaming purposes, I would recommend choosing 15 and 17 inch laptops. There are more notebook options in the 15 inch category, as they are good for gaming and at the same time, pretty portable.
On the other hand, 17 inch screens make a lot of difference if you want to have an optimal gaming experience. The disadvantage here is that 17 inch gaming laptops are not exactly what one can call compact, and they are also pretty heavy. 17 inch laptops are ideal if you are not planning to move your laptop too often.
Budget and Brands
The best gaming laptops in Malaysia prices usually start from RM 3000 or 4000. This relatively high price can be explained by the use of the top components in terms of hardware.
If you only like to play a few determined games I’d recommend you to verify the system requirements for those, as you may get away with much lower specs than the models listed below.
However, if you want to play the latest releases with good FPS ratio, you will have to choose some of the most powerful portable computers. Even the benchmark of the best gaming laptops in Malaysia will be marginal to play the heaviest new released with maxed out graphics.
